A short video story of the home is here:

EXTERIOR / OVER ALL
The client mentioned they wanted to live in a space that would help them think differently.
That comment alone let us know he was thinking about living in a architectural sense. We decided we wanted to use the concept of angled walls but suit them to the client's specific needs and space. The invention is a modified A frame with a transverse angular roof that creates a stronger projecting effect which we felt suited the architecture concept of a different head space well.
The owners also expressed the joy they get from their Filipino culture and we incorporated that into the minimalist super flat detailing and materiality through out the home.
You approach the home and are greeted by the message “you are loved” in the first stepping stone. You walk along a flat paver composition with three raised vegetable gardens where, as chefs, they can train their little ones in food growing.
ENTRY
The entry portal is a material study. Each wall is a single material used in the home and creates a color block effect. Here we took extra care to detail everything in a minimalist or super flat manner so the real star of the space could stand out, the time capsule.
When people are building a legacy home it is often at an important point in their life and building a custom architect designed home can take several years. Inside are photos of the building process, letters to their future self, and other memorial items.
You enter the door and immediately are greeted by a foyer with smooth white walls that conceal a floor to ceiling hidden pull out shoe holder.
Your feet are greeted by a deep blue Spanish style tile with a micro pattern which give the tile more of a carpet effect than a large screaming pattern which flattens out and contrasts with the smooth bright walls and ceilings.
KITCHEN
With Lo being one of Orlando’s top restauranteur minds, we wanted to pull out all the stops in designing a super flat kitchen. The kitchen provides a calm simple atmosphere. The items needed in a kitchen can often times create a cluttered space unless treated with care and attention in architectural detailing.
The cutting board is an insert into the kitchen sink with a center drain hole. The counter top is made of that same cutting board material and has a recessed cook top with a concealed hood vent above. Custom cove tile is included to transition to a floral tile pattern. Disposal switches and outlets are recessed and centered in the flower tiles minimizing their visual impact on the balanced asymmetrical-composition.
Hand made maple shelves warm up the atmosphere visually while also concealing operable laser cut maple air vents. Matte finished recycled composite doors hide the dishwasher. To top it all off; the faucet works via voice command and the black steel refrigerator makes whiskey ice balls to add to the fun.
From the kitchen a large folding wall opens to a central raised entertaining deck which upon walking through you are greeted by the otherwise unassuming 2 story modified A frame. The contrast in scale provides a strong transition which has received some of the stronger positive reactions to the architecture of the home.
PRIVATE AREA / HALL
Moving through the private areas you pass through a large flat wood projection window nook.
The way we organized the home collected almost every door in one vestibule which really benefited from the super flat concept. Twelve doors were seamlessly and beautifully integrated in an almost artistic vestibule entrance into the A frame.
