Patti Allen: ”We love to marry design and comfort for clients. Barrel shapes are so comfortable. The chairs used in the office and dining areas were selected for the ability to offer a comfy spot for lingering. Within the office, the desk by Chaddock and side chairs by Ambella were used complementing the scale of the space.”

Stephanie James: “Understanding the client’s style preferences, we sought out timeless pieces that also offered a little bling. The room is open to multiple dining and living spaces and the scale of the furnishings by Chaddock, Ambella, Wesley Hall and Mr. Brown and lighting by John Richards and Visual Comfort were very important. The living room area with its vaulted ceilings created a need for dramatic fixtures and furnishings to complement the scale. The mixture of textiles and leather offer comfortable seating options whether for a family gathering or an intimate evening with a book.”

The breakfast area adjacent to the kitchen did not veer from the New Traditional design of the entire home. Elegant lighting and furnishings were illuminated by an awesome bank of windows. With chairs by Hickory White, table by Iorts and lighting by Currey and Co., each piece is a perfect complement for the gracious space.

Bathed in sunlight from the large window expanse, the master bedroom closet speaks to the amount of detail the Allen and James design team brought to this project. An amazing light fixture by Visual Comfort delivers bling and a wow factor to this dressing retreat. Illumination of the classic cabinetry is also added with a shimmering white finish.

Awash in neutrals and sunlight, this guest bedroom welcomes guests with touches of soft coloration from the rug showcasing the unique wooden elements in the room. Light from natural and illuminating sources offers a dramatic detail for guests to enjoy. The upholstered bed and complementary bench add comfort throughout the room.

A design experience like no other, that was exactly what a Bloomfield Hills family of five envisioned when selecting the design duo of Allen and James for their newly constructed 6,000 square foot home. As relationships were important in their selection of a neighborhood, so was it in their selection of a design firm. The result was an enjoyable design experience that was totally tailored to their style, furnishings that were personally experienced prior to placement and a home that became more than they imagined.

This towering new construction beauty in the Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills was the recipient of the passion and proven expertise of co-owners Patti Allen and Stephanie James throughout room after room. With a New Traditional design style, contemporary lighting and classic furnishings were highlighted and custom designed for every room of the home.

“We start each design project by listening; then, selecting from our palette of more than 400 of the world’s finest furniture makers, artisans, and artists,” said designer, Stephanie James, Allen and James Designs. “When our clients for this amazing project were ready to explore their vision for a perfect home; we listened.”

The listening continued for this Bloomfield Hills family when they were transported to the very capital of the furniture industry, High Point, NC. Home to Allen and James Designs, this quaint North Carolina town is the epicenter of the world’s largest assemblage of fine furnishings and fabricators, accessories and artisans.

“Our comprehensive design experience includes tailoring a personal tour to the very places the furnishings are crafted. We select manufacturers that are the best fit for the home they wished to create,” said Patti Allen, co-owner, Allen and James Designs.

“Fully informed of each company’s capabilities and limitations, our clients were able to actually meet the people who were to craft their furnishings. As they wanted to be sure every sofa, sectional, bench, and

chair felt just right, they sat in every one, in the factory showroom, before selections were made. In just a couple of days, they knew which makers could build the furnishings they would want to keep for years,” continued James.

As one enters the home, the designer created ambiance and sparkle surrounds you as much as the soothing colors, textures and artistry. The dining room and the living room are accented by unbelievable volume in ceilings as well as square footage. All fixtures and furnishings were selected to match the scale and deliver harmony of space. Fully adorned with art and textiles, finishes and furnishings individually selected to create this stylish and welcoming abode, this was truly a New Traditional design like no other.
