In the living room, the plan was to allow for gatherings around the fireplace or the television while also capturing the waterside views. Ceiling niches were designed to incorporate motorized solar shades from Lutron that disappear when not in use. A custom colorized rug defined the space while not competing with the surroundings. Furnishings from Tomlinson Companies to Alfonso Marina were coordinated with lighting from the artisans of Visual Comfort and Hammerton.

“A round rug and dining table were the best options for the dining space due to the angles prevalent in the room design.” explained Williams. “In the Kitchen, we were seeking a clean and contemporary look through the cabinetry and countertops selected.”

Colorful Concepts Interior Design - Raleigh NC

From Laurie Rudd

Custom-built along North Carolina’s Intracoastal waterway, this 4,000 square foot home is situated in the port city of Wilmington in the Landfall community. Despite the amazing waterfront views and nautical locale, the home holds a far from “beachy” vibe; all by design. Casual elegance was the owner’s preferred personal style. As this was a second home, they knew who they could count on to deliver exactly that.

Raleigh, North Carolina’s Colorful Concepts Interior Design had designed the owner’s first home and eagerly embraced the opportunity to provide the desired personalized sophistication. Designer and owner, Sally Williams, selected custom furnishings, finishes, and lighting to highlight the home’s natural setting while adding color through awareness and accents.

“Although the home held a large footprint and an even larger perspective due to the openness and abundance of windows, we envisioned an intimate and restful ambiance for the home,” said Williams. “The furnishings were selected and styled to present the desired elegance while allowing the exterior surroundings to be the focus. We kept textiles and paint selections neutral while drawing inspiration for any infusion of color from the exterior waters and endless skies.”

Working with the builder, Jeremy Bishop of Sterling Custom Construction, Colorful Concepts was instrumental in the selection of all materials, finishes, and fixtures during the construction as well as developing the interior lighting plan. All furnishings, window treatments, rugs, and décor item selections were thoughtfully made by Williams and her team.

“A round rug and dining table were the best options for the dining space due to the angles prevalent in the room design.” explained Williams. “In the Kitchen, we were seeking a clean and contemporary look through the cabinetry and countertops selected.”

The home was designed for welcoming family and guests year-around with three bedrooms and multiple baths as well as lounging areas for gathering around for a movie or at a puzzle table on rainy days.

For Colorful Concepts, continuing the home’s custom look was accomplished through color palettes in Tamarian rugs to custom cabinetry from Abner Henry and ST2.

Expertly designed to deliver sophistication and elegance, this home was also dressed to embrace the casual tones, textures and style of living that will be savored season after season.
