This contemporary farmhouse, designed and built by Smith & McClain, sits on a scenic ridge in the Green Mountains of Vermont. The clients originally purchased a forested building lot, and with the help and direction of Smith & McClain, they transformed it into their dream home, with lawn, meadow, and beautiful mountain views. Quality timbers were milled from the site lumber, and used throughout the project. Despite its modest size, it is a 4 bedroom home, designed intentionally to accommodate its young and growing family through the years to come. Local craftsmen and materials were important to the construction and vision of the project.

- Total square Footage: 2,600 sq/ft, 1300sf on 1st FL and 1,300sf on 2nd floor.
- R30 Walls and R40 Roof. Slab poured at grade (no basement) with radiant heating, 2x6 walls with 2” of spray foam in the wall cavity and 2” of outsulation board foam on the exterior.

- Exterior Details: 12/12 Roof with four opposing dormers. Large post and beam porch that creates inside/outside living for three seasons. Pine material for porch harvested and milled on site.

- Interior Details: Locally sourced brown maple hardwood flooring, sheetrock returns for modern look, custom built curved staircase w/ steel rail, ten foot ceilings w/ proportionally sized windows and doors.

- Project Completed: Fall of 2010.
