The client's brief for their new country house, located in East Hampton, New York, asked that it have a strong historic character. Our solution was driven by the constriction of the narrow site and a maximum size of 5,000 SF. The location of the existing garage dictated the final placement of the new house.

The design for this project was inspired by the self-contained block form of American mid 18c "manor houses". This typology fit with the style, program, and size limitations. The plan borrows from this period with its imposing, central stair hall surrounded by the principal rooms. The combined living and dining room, with a Gunston Hall inspired crown, provides a modern room layout for a young family.
