This modern home retreat in the Blue Ridge Mountains takes full advantage of its densely wooded setting, including two natural clearings in the surrounding woods. The design is oriented to maximize the views and available sunlight along the two clearings, while also minimizing disturbance to the site.
Emblematic of Asheville modern residential architecture, the house was designed for a biking enthusiast and his wife looking for an escape from a busy world. The contemporary open plan includes a screened porch with sliding glass doors that open to the kitchen and dining room, and a master suite perched up on a steel structure overlooking the landscape.
All main living spaces are oriented to maximize the views along the forest clearings, and clerestory windows on the north face of the building help increase available sunlight throughout the interior.
