Green Farmhouse by Sarah Catherine Design

Designed by Sarah Catherine Design, and located in Kingston Springs, TN, the open-concept barn turned two-story modern farmhouse home features both rustic and vintage elements while still maintaining the barn’s modern open airy loft feel.

Designed as a weekend getaway to enjoy and host groups of family and friends, Sarah Catherine Design set out to give the home plenty of personality, including vintage-style Big Chill appliances (bigchill.com) in jadeite, adding a muted yet fun pop to the all-white kitchen and living room.

The kitchen layout was designed around the barn’s existing large picture windows. The simple kitchen layout allows for the island to function as the focal gathering place to the kitchen/living space. Open shelving helped provide additional storage where upper cabinets would not have worked due to the vaulted ceiling. Cabinets are custom designs, and the garage doors were added to the front facing side of the barn to allow for easy access to the outdoors on beautiful days.

Sarah’s team also sourced old beams from a barn nearby the property that was being torn down and used them to visually define the bedrooms, while still maintaining the open concept of the second floor.

The primary entertaining space overlooks the property’s private country hunting farm, in the middle of a beautiful, sprawling grass field that is adjacent to the Harpeth River. All year long wild turkeys and deer can be spotted crossing the field. From the outside, the barn looks like a regular red-roofed barn sitting in the center of a vast field.
