Highland Park
This 1900's Tudor, built with local Texas stone, got a minimal exterior touchup, preserving the history while bringing it into the modern era. The entry surround and shutters got a deep, luxurious paint finish, while the door and bistro benches got a light and airy blue to bring a pop of color to tie into flowers.
Keeping with the style of the house, the walls have a venetian plaster finish in a soft cream tone. Both the buffet and cabinet, original to the space, got updated with a matching lacquer paint finish to tie into the walls. Continuing the desire to bring the space into the 21st century, the dining table is a thick piece of lavender crackle resin that sits atop smokey acrylic pedestal bases. Classic Klismos chairs from Nancy Corzine, covered in Sabina Fey velvet, surround the table.
The sunroom, right off the sitting room, is home to a simple game table and swive chairs with views to the backyard.
Wanting to take advantage of the space available to have a comfortable space where the kids and their friends can sit and watch a movie, or where the big game can be viewed, a custom u shape sectional was built so everyone had the best seat in the house. The leather upholstered ottoman, perfect for kicking your feet up, can also be used as a place to set drinks or snacks on a tray.
The space above the garage, previously unutilized, was converted to the ultimate gaming space for the two boys. A red lacquer wall hung console hangs below a large flat screen tv. The modular sectional can be maneuvered to have deeper seats, perfect for sleepovers.
In a little nook in the space, a wall to wall console holds all their gaming systems, including controllers. There is no fighting for screen time because each boy has their own screen. The red and black Walter Knoll swivel chairs allows them to play together or on their own.
A small kitchenette, stocked with snacks and drinks, has the walls lined with strips of cinema posters and even has a vintage style arcade game for when they want a break from the screen.

While respecting the history and architecture of the house, we created an updated version of the home’s original personality with contemporary finishes that still feel appropriate, while also incorporating some of the original furniture passed down in the family. Two decades and two teenage sons later, the family needed their home to be more user friendly and to better suit how they live now. We used a lot of unique and upscale finishes that would contrast each other and add panache to the space.
