The house is spread over a 4000 sq. ft. plot in a gated community in the heart of Ratnagiri. The house is conceptualised to furnish intimate landscaped spaces to every individual residing in the house. Keeping the approach minimal, private spaces were confined inside the massy walls of local Laterite stone giving them a cosier environment and seclusion. On the contrary, the living spaces are kept more open and transparent and are physically connected to the pockets of the ‘Hidden Gardens’.
This Vastu-compliant house has a central open courtyard, The Brahmasthan, opens up on the northern side which keeps the living area placid and airy throughout the hot and humid summers. Connecting the living room to the two landscaped garden spaces allows flexibility for the extended family during their social gatherings. Given the compact nature of the plot size, this house is planned in such a way that every private space can enjoy its own individual walled gardens. Talking about the Material Palette, natural materials like locally sourced Laterite, rustic Kota, and Kadapa slabs add to the earthy appearance and keep the house serene. Tropical landscapes and waterbodies further accentuate the aesthetics of the house.
