Transforming a compact 27-square-meter apartment with a 4.5-meter ceiling height and no natural light into a smart, efficient, and inviting living space.
About the Project:
Embracing the constraints of a small and unconventional space, our project focuses on maximizing functionality and comfort. By utilizing vertical space effectively, we created a modern and flexible living environment comprising a kitchenette, bathroom, dressing area, and a cozy bedroom loft.
To honor the historical significance of the location and seamlessly integrate indoor and outdoor elements, we embarked on a design journey that resonates with the vibrant atmosphere of Haifa's lower city. Built in 1947 during the British mandate, the building stands as a testament to the area's evolution from a commercial hub to a thriving cultural center.
Our design philosophy emphasizes a harmonious blend of contemporary materials with nods to local history. For instance, the flooring features a striking black and white pattern reminiscent of mid-century aesthetics, while vintage photographs from the Haifa archive adorn the living space, offering glimpses into the city's past.
Despite budget constraints, we prioritized quality and creativity, opting for cost-effective materials such as corrugated tin for cladding and industrial-inspired iron beams for the loft structure. These choices not only reflect the developer's vision but also contribute to the apartment's unique charm.
Ultimately, our goal was to create an inviting sanctuary for artists seeking inspiration, aligning with the municipality's initiative to foster creativity and innovation in the area. Through thoughtful design and strategic use of resources, we transformed a small space into a dynamic expression of Haifa's cultural richness.
