Push and Pull - The L-Shape Kitchen. The layout of this spec home did not take full advantage of the Country Club Plaza view in Kansas City. Symmetry was not an option. Dynamic asymmetry was the answer. The telescoping depth of the long wall, 18" deep bar cabinets, 21" deep surround 24" sink and fridge, created visual volume in this long hallway. The three legged island offered an unexpected link to the bar. Recessing a tall pantry with microwave added maximum function with a minimal footprint. Custom details like the metal trim between the countertop and leg were repeated as edging for the back-painted glass backsplash. Additional storage was created behind the range wall for a closet and pantry. The unexpected acid yellow pantry interior sparks a smile.
