From Amber

We are a leading sustainable hospitality brand in Scotland. Fully integrated we designed, manufactured (prefabricated) and now operate our off-grid Kabns on the shores of Loch Fyne, just an hour north of Glasgow in Scotland.

The design of our minimalist Kabns was inspired by our travels to remote parts of Bhutan and Japan, where we were fortunate enough to stay in stunning design properties in nature. It was important to us that nature and the wilderness surrounding the Kabns remained a core focus, which is why both cabins have full height glass windows and doors. Although both Kabns were prefabricated, they have unique designs with one being landscape orientated with a glass corner and the other cabin being portrait orientated with a glass slatted gable. Together with the pitched roof there is a constant feeling of space and light throughout the Kabn.

The cross laminated timber interior walls and ceilings enable the beauty of the wood with its knots to be a reminder and connection to the trees that surround us.

We strongly believe that spending time in spaces which have minimalist aesthetics provides mental clarity, enabling our guests to reset and reconnect with themselves during their stay. Having said that, we also wanted to ensure that guests had all of the usual comforts they need, so each cabin has a small kitchenette, a king-sized bed and an en-suite bathroom with waterfall shower. Both Kabns are just a few metres from the loch shore.

We clad our cabins in charred larch which is a Japanese technique of preserving the wood. It removes the need to treat the wood with harsh chemicals and provides great longevity with anti-fungal properties. We also think it looks beautiful too, even more so as it ages.

Sustainability has been a key focus of ours from the development of the cabins in a prefabricated manner to all elements within the Kabns - from the recycled coconut husk septic treatment plant to the organic and fair trade linen to the organic herbs, spices and oils we supply on a complimentary basis. We also plant a tree for each guest stay through Ripple Africa and donate 10% of our dog charge to the Scottish SPCA. Giving back remains a key focus and as we look to grow our brand it will remain so.
