The expandable breakfast table is a nice sunny spot to enjoy morning coffee and a view of the lake.

The roman shades allow light to come into the kitchen while blocking glaring afternoon sun.

The living room was simplified by removing ceiling fans and pendant lights that made the space busy. The simple chandelier by Ravenhill studio provides light and complements the space, rather than detracting from it.

The client opted for no shades or drapery in the living room to maximize the views of the lake. The covered wraparound porch provides protection from direct light in the summer.

A key move in the space was to refinish all of the existing red oak floors to a lighter, more neutral tone that both lighten and modernize the open living area.

The hearth was simplified to become a calming visual anchor in the space. Ceiling height wood trim and a bulky river rock base were replaced with a clean zellige tile surround, hand-glazed ceramic tile base with a Aria quartzite hearth, and a modern birch log set.

The wraparound porch was shamefully underused by the previous homeowners. Repainting and adding new light fixtures and cozy furniture has made this a favorite spot.

The window niche in the primary bedroom is a great spot to take a quiet moment. Fussy drapery and floral upholstery were replaced with woven wool fabric and linen roman shades, for a more relaxing, hygge vibe.

This ensuite guest bathroom was busy with wall murals and bird hardware. We chose a natural oak Pottery barn vanity with a marble countertop to soften the space, along with pewter wall sconces by Palecek and brushed nickel hardware.

This was a nearly full home renovation. When the homeowners purchased this lake house it was a bit fussy and overdone with Mackenzie Childs decor, floral upholstery, and outdated materials, which did not lend to the sense of retreat they were seeking for this weekend home outside of the city. We opted to refresh the home with a clean, timeless palette, focusing on daylight, texture, honest materials, and calming colors.
