Savoring a family lakefront home. My husband and I chose to renovate a family home that my parents purchased in 1979. At that time, the home was a cobbled together mid century modern-ish lake cabin with a living room addition that connected the cabin to the garage. After numerous design iterations of a complete teardown, we decided that we loved the flow of this ranch house, loved the way the structure was situated on the site and loved to preserve many family memories.

With the help of a wonderful GC, we worked together to design (some times by hand on printer paper) the plans to reconfigure the bedrooms, add a bathroom, expand the kitchen and refinish and unfinished basement. In addition, we also had to install a new HVAC system, new lighting, siding, roof, new decking and landscaping.

All the work was completed in 8 months so that our family did not miss a priceless summer at the lake.

I would love to submit this project to highlight how to save an old house as well as how vital working with a great contractor and experienced tradespeople when undertaking large scale renovation projects.
