This project started in 2018, when my wife and I bought a highly steep piece of land a few meters away of our then home. We knew at start that we will have to be quite imaginative to put a house on a 20% grade 1,5 acres. The objective was to maximize the view on the majestic St. Laurent River, the Pelerins Islands, and the beautiful sunsets (second best in the world, according to National Geographic, as everyone in my town brag about!) The challenge was to put the house at the highest point, maintaining a viable access route even in the winter. After a few iterations, the plan was to embedded the house and its 3 story in the mountain, so we could have access to the garage in the winter, not having to climb all the way up. The house would also serve as the stairway to get from a plateau to another. We have done all the design and plans by ourselves, and managed all the construction on our own, which resulted with a lot of sleepless nights. At the end we are really proud of the house and it simple aesthetic, and we enjoy the view everyday as much as the first day.
