This existing metal fabricated building, located on an alley in a mixed use zone was previously used for vintage wood storage. Early on I visualized potential for a live/work space based on it's volume and location within downtown. I was also interested in using the space as an example of loft style project looming with partners in the immediate area. Still on the table, "NOFO Lofts" is to be a 30,000 sq ft mixed use building including expansive custom condos with 20' ceilings. When my home unexpectedly sold at the beginning of the pandemic I immediately emptied and began to renovate the space. I already had ideas for direction, to use the lower back third as bedroom and bath with office/loft above. I skinned interior with plywood, cleaned and sealed existing concrete floors, and left the rest an open space. It’s 1500 square feet with a 14’ ceiling. HVAC duct is a single fabric sock. The natural light is supplied by a 12'x12' frosted glass garage door which faces east to allow morning light to flood in. The large garage door, when open, also increases space for parties and oyster roasts. Even with volume the space has a warm cozy feel with the birch plywood and colorful palette. The decor is a reflection of personal finds over the years and artwork is local by various friends.
