A minimalist mountain home set in Fernie, BC of the Canadian Rockies. The three bedroom and three bathroom house is laid out over just under 2000 square feet of interior living space. Chernoff Architects of Calgary AB completed the general exterior design, floor plan and structural plans while homeowner Robert Oleksiuk was responsible for the interior design and exterior wood screens details.
The home's orientation and main glazing takes advantage of the 20,000 sq ft pie shaped lot offering the homeowners privacy in a forest retreat like setting. Select areas have large windows oriented toward the mountain views and surrounding neighbourhood. Black cedar cladding flows from the outside to the interior entry while extensive use of birch plywood provides continuity between indoor and outdoor living spaces. The rolling wood screen across the front offers additional privacy to the interior as well as shade from the summer sun on the front patio.
Interior decor utilizes minimalist elements such as trimless bases, door and window junctions. The lower floor offers large expanses of white walls for art and birch plywood for the ceilings. Upstairs the order is reversed with birch plywood walls providing a warm cosy feel within a minimalist vibe.
