Sunset Cliff is a house perched on a rugged cliff on the shore of Lake Champlain. The clients demolished a seasonal camp to create their full-time residence. The home’s character evokes a New England seashore shingle style cottage. Three covered porches and an outdoor shower enhance the beach-cottage theme of the home. The classic exterior white cedar shingle palette, turn-of-the-century details, a swooping standing seam metal roof with shed dormers gracefully contain the three-story home. The traditional architectural language conveyed the familiar with unique characteristics responding to the site and the program. The house received a 5+star energy rating, the highest possible, from the state of Vermont.
