The clients of this project needed a country home, with the possibility of increasing the building area according to their needs, and easy transportation in case of relocation.
The project premise was always to be able to use shipping containers to transform them into weekend housing, taking advantage of their speed of construction, containers recycling and ease of relocation.
The project entitles the placement of 2 shipping containers, one 40 feet container, to accommodate the resting area (bedrooms and toilets), placed in a north-south direction to avoid the direct sunlight heat on the room windows, and another 20 feet container placed perpendicularly where the social area operates. (Living room – dining room – kitchen.)
Shipping containers are placed in an "L" shape to create a central space as the “main garden”; which was then used to generate a covered outdoor deck that connects with the social area, allowing to expand the living space and have a better interior-outdoor relationship by opening glass doors that interconnect spaces.
An interior deck is also formed as a corridor to connect the bedrooms. This corridor can grow to connect more containers in room modules; that is, if you want to expand the house, containers will be placed in the same north south direction.
This 480 square foot house consists of 3 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms; one shared and one private with hydro massage and exterior views, by matching the doors of the 40-foot container.
The service area container connects through its open doors with complementary areas, a BBQ area, an open fire fireplace and gardens.
From its exterior appearance you can distinguish the correlation of the containers within the traditional architecture of the area. A sloped roof detail with ceramic tiles on top of the containers, which does not only helps with the internal temperature control by generating cross ventilation. But, it also promotes the vernacular architecture of the place.
The interior spaces, although with a minimal a space of 480 square feet (43.7 m2), houses all the comforts of a nice and cozy farmhouse that according to the owners, a couple of proud grandparents, has become their "grandchildren’s house ".
