Villa Kummelnäs

I fell in love with this slab occupated by a few pinetrees, it was supposed to stay here, allways.
A house here had to embrace the roughness of the place, both conceptually and physically. The aim became to create a large socially connected space, divided into separate parts but open both inwards and towards the lake, the trees and the sky. Focus inside was on the flow of the rooms, the views, and to maximise the "togetherspaces".

On the exterior the slab was the boss. We cast the base of the walls with figurecut wood and reinforced with rebar, straight on to the rock. The slab was placed on top. This way we could keep the impression of the house just carefully been placed in nature. It works very well with the stormwater just flowing right trough the base of the house through small exitholes in the facade.
To secure an environmentally friendly energysolution, rockheat seemed appropriate. We combined it with thick lightweight concrete walls to allow for a lot of glass and glasspartitions. The walls are breathable and plastered both on the exterior and the interior, it lets moist wander through the walls which creates a healthy and comfortable indoor climate.

The masterbedroom is tucked away in the little "tower" overlooking treetops and the lake. Beneath is the larger livingroom with an open fireplace.The livingroom is lowered from the entrylevel, just like the slab slopes down on the exterior.
The kitchen is located between diningarea and the smaller livingroom. It has a direct connection to an outsidearea facing south, covered by a giant pinetree which supplies welcome shade during summerdays.
When designing the patio we felt we had a chance to introduce some green within the masonrywalls, we gave it a grassfloor. When looking out from our house the grass softens the impression of the rough rock, it brings in colour, life and a lot of dirt in the summer when we constantly move between inside and outside with bare feet... :).

This is our hideout and we love the peace of this spot, when working in the city of Stockholm it is nice to be greated by the lake and trees when we come home.
