Yama Retreat is a design proposal of a weekend mountain escape in Salento, Colombia, for a couple in their 40s to connect with nature and to house some of their art/collectible designs. “A retreat is not an escape from the world so much as an intentional coming into the presence of one’s self” The house is inspired by Japanese design ethos such as the engawa, a roofed transition zone created by extending the interior floor outward, the extensive use of natural wood, low seating for the living, dining, and sleeping areas, as well as a designated area for the ceremonial preparation and presentation of matcha.
