Recent empty nesters, the owners of this classic loft sought to refresh and refine their home for their next life chapter. Nestled in the West Village and steps from the Hudson River, calming blue hues were utilized throughout to reference the open sky and water.

Initially lined with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, the long entry hall was reworked to create a dramatic extended foyer that sets the tone for the entire home. Complete with hidden storage, a custom seating nook, and stunning hand-painted ombre walls, this space utilizes a structural archway to both define the room and frame a view of the kitchen. At the midway point of the hall, a custom seating area was carved out to change the proportions of this otherwise linear space and make the hall feel shorter and wider. The seating area includes a custom ceruse black-stained rift white oak surround with integrated storage, a custom upholstered banquette with shoe storage below, integrated lighting, and lively wallpaper. Opposite the seating is an oversized mirror and wall sconces which further define the space as a room within a room. The hall walls, ceilings, doors, and baseboards are all painted in a custom blue gray ombre, which ties in with the furniture palette throughout.

The open plan kitchen, dining and living areas seamlessly blend together, creating a versatile environment great for entertaining and relaxation. New furniture and textiles, decorative and architectural lighting, and artwork were installed to tie the room together.

The primary bedroom underwent a subtle yet impactful update, with new furniture and decorative lighting. The ensuite primary bathroom was fitted with a translucent fluted glass door to capture sunlight streaming in from the bedroom windows. The bathroom was gut-renovated using light, reflective, and elegant finishes paired with ample lighting to brighten up this internal space. Custom rift white oak cabinetry ties into finishes used in the rest of the home.

In the combined family room/ home office, a custom wrap-around white oak shelving unit anchors the room and provides an integrated desk and media storage. The owners wanted a dual-purpose home office and family room that was comfortable and functional without sacrificing aesthetics.
