Here Kuma used a traditional Japanese joint system in wood structure construction called “Jigoku Gumi” to create soft warm space giving the feeling of a forest or cloud. The adoption of a 3D structure system enabled the cross section of one member to be reduced to as thin as 60mm x 60mm. Using a traditional Japanese construction called "Jigoku Gumi,"  Kuma created a nest-like structure out of Hinoki (Japanese cypress), which enables natural light to stream into the cafe—creating a bright and airy interior.
