Designed as a beach getaway, Casa Origami by Mas Fernandez Arquitectos Asociados embraces its coastal setting and the accompanying vistas. Nestled into the center of a hillside, the narrow home is oriented to maximize sun and views, which frame the landscape while providing privacy from neighbors at either end.

Restrained by a modest construction budget, the architects opted for prefabricated and modular materials to cut down on build time. Large spaces were built using steel structures over the structural insulated panel (SIP) construction system.

Above, a pleated roof recalls the art of origami, adding a sense of playfulness to the simple construction. The triangulated forms created from the roof’s folds allow light to pass into the living spaces.

At 1,938 square feet, the home has four sleeping quarters including a master suite, a large open living space that flows into the kitchen and dining room, and a service area.

Pinewood-lined walls and ceilings draw the outside in, adding a touch of warmth to the muted interior palette.
