With a budget of $700,000, designer Hannah Crowell of Crowell & Co. Interiors and architect Michael Goorevich transformed an uninspired, 1960s ranch-style residence into a bright, contemporary home filled with light, landscape views, and plenty of modern art.

“My client reached out to me on the front-end during the architectural drawing stage, which is my ideal time to come on board,” says Hannah of the highly collaborative design process.

Despite the residence’s 2,200-square-foot size, the original house had a diminutive feel due to low ceilings and abundance of dark wood paneling.

To open up the interiors and inject a contemporary aesthetic, Hannah and Michael replaced hundreds of square feet of wood paneling with bright white walls and knocked down dividing walls while adding large windows.

Parts of the roof were raised, and an extension was added to bring greater amounts of light into the three-bedroom house, which now measures 2,756 square feet.

Key to the renovation was creating a linear, open-plan layout for the communal areas, which included converting the garage into the new living room to allow the dining space to be located in the former living room. The garage was relocated to a new carport lined with Douglas fir.
