The New Polydrops 2020 Camper Is the Perfect Companion to Tesla’s Cybertruck

The futuristic teardrop trailer is back—and it’s better than ever before.

After taking its wildly popular camper on a cross-country trip, Polydrops refined the design—and it just launched a new 2020 model with improved parts and cutting-edge accessories to help road-trippers make the most of the great outdoors.

The lightweight aluminum-frame trailer ranges from 900 to 1,150 pounds (depending on the model)‚ and it’s designed to be towed by most cars. With its striking angular exterior, it’s also the perfect companion to Tesla’s Cybertruck.

With four models to choose from—starting at 900 pounds—the Polydrop 2020 trailer can be towed by most vehicles.

The new design includes a 100-watt solar charging system along with a Timbren Independent suspension unit and a hydraulic disc braking system for improved towing performance and additional safety.

"What I’ve designed is not just a camping trailer, but more of a portable, private space of your own that one or two (and a dog) can travel with," says Polydrops founder Kyung-Hyun Lew, who dropped the first prototype back in 2017. "Fun fact is, my wife and I not only used to use this trailer for traveling, but we also used it as a personal studying space in the SCI-Arc parking lot while earning our graduate degrees—and also as a micro-office while we were developing our business at the start-up incubator."

At 5.5 feet wide, the trailer fits a mattress that can sleep two people and a dog.

You're going to need a lot of coffee to get back on an even keel for today's hike. Luckily, the Stanley Adventure 6-Cup Percolator lets you fire up six cups of joe at a time so you and your camping buddies have enough to clear the fog.

Inside the 12' x 5.5' teardrop you’ll find a three-quarter-size mattress, a fan roof vent, and three overhead storage compartments at the foot of the bed that are wired with LED lighting. For the new 2020 model, the interior material was upgraded from plywood to a white fiberglass-reinforced plastic, which is more durable and easy to clean.

The lightweight, four-season cabin is weatherproof with 8.7 inches of insulation and an aluminum outer skin. The added insulation also helps to conserve energy.

The 2020 Polydrops lineup includes four models—the K-17, K-19, K-20, and KJ-20—with the K-17 base model priced at $14,495. The KJ-20 Fully Loaded model is priced at just under $20,o00, and it comes with a full kitchenette (including a refrigerator, a hand-pump sink, and a two-burner propane stove), a roof rack, a Roadshower 4S, an awning, a security camera, and an air conditioner.

Both the K-20 Camper and the KJ-20 Fully Loaded models come with an electronic system that operates the fridge, heater, a/c unit, thermostat, interior and exterior LED lights, roof fan, and infrared camera system. There’s also an optional new Lift Kit add-on, which includes 15 inches of ground clearance.

While the trailer was designed to be easy to maneuver, it was also built with parking in mind. It’s small enough to be tucked away in a garage, unlike most trailers—so you can easily load up and hit the road.

"When we look back on our vision with Polydrops, the happiest moment of building this trailer was when we finally had our own space to be free to leave whenever we wanted—not merely camping in comfort, but exploring new places where larger RVs, 5th wheels, and vehicles are unable to venture," says Lew.

Polydrops plans to launch a larger model at the end of the year.

Stay tuned—Polydrops is preparing to release a larger model, which will hit the market later this year.
