This 130m2 flat in the center of Barcelona was in a very bad state when Hana, a young Egyptian artist bought it. We did a total renovation, tore down the bathrooms, the kitchen, a few walls, we opened the space to light, we kept what was precious from the past such as the original flooring, we discovered the typical catalan brick arches under suspended ceilings that we had restored. In a matter of 6 months the Flat was totally transformed into a beautiful 4 room, 3 bathroom, 2 patio apartment ready to welcome tourists to visit Barcelona.

"It’s typical for Barcelona buildings from this period that the bedrooms are divided with decorative plaster columns and a cornice to create a curtained-off alcove for the bed, separating it from the more public part of the rest of the room. We opened up our bedroom, but we conserved that feature in Hanna’s room, and now every morning she wants to play dress-up."
High ceilings with restored gypsum mouldings are another nod to the structure's historic past. "The project is best understood as an art gallery whose main objective is to offer the best possible frame to exhibit art whilst at the same time providing an optimal experience for its users," says Victor Alavedra, a partner of the firm. Glass doors connect the kitchen to the guest room beyond.
In the flat’s living room, midcentury modern art and furniture harmonize with the rich floor tiles, opulent molded ceilings. and original pine wood doors. Prints by Gordon Matta-Clark line the wall near a 1950s Danish dining table that’s paired with Eames chairs. A painting by Kuuti Lavonen hangs above a pink chair and ottoman by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec.
