The mirrored wall takes advantage of south facing windows in the living space and reflects light back through the hallway.

The third-level bar and kitchenette have four openings with wood coverings that slide away. The space is perfect for “wine and ceviche—for enjoying the sunset,” says Ernesto. The table, designed by Ellen, nests into concrete banquette seating. To connect the bar with the top-level viewing deck, Yektajo inserted a spiral staircase with a compact footprint to preserve the views.

A birch staircase features extensive storage and contrasts with the concrete floors and the reclaimed brick of the partial wall. The wire stool was designed by Cees Brakman, and the ceiling beams are made from pine.

In the dining area, a custom birch bookcase is inset into a partial wall of brick that was salvaged from the previous house that stood on the lot.

Deciding not to paint the original ceiling (”I was tempted so many times!” she says) was one of Leah’s biggest design decisions. “I feared it’d have a cabin look, but ultimately trusted my gut and it turned out to be one of my favorite rooms in the home,” Leah says.

Architect Edgar Tafel met his client for the home, Henry Bookstaber, when both were serving in WWII.

In the primary bath, cedar wall paneling complements an oak vanity with a custom concrete sink and counter. The floors are slate tiles by Cle.

New engineered oak floors and oak cabinetry lend a warmth to the interiors, especially the new open living area containing the kitchen, dining, and living area on the main floor. The glass pendants over the island were made by the father of one of the owners, who owns Pablo Glass in Woodstock, New York.

The guest room, where Abhishek's father likes to read, includes a custom chair designed by Abhishek's partner, Jeet Gajera.

The loft is on the third floor, and the windows look out onto a parking lot and church, so they offer unobstructed light and views. "In the summer, I could just sit here and watch the fireworks," he says.

The primary bedroom includes an IKEA wardrobe “hacked” with doors from Noremax in a custom orange color.

The backsplash tile in the kitchen is Cle Tile. The ceramic dishware is by Julie Cloutier, who also has several ceramic pieces scattered throughout the home.
