The large boathouse features walls of glass and original artwork by David Novros, creating an unexpectedly refined atmosphere.

Along with the museum's doors and windows, the reception desk, bar counter, and bathroom sinks have also been custom-designed and created by hand.

SHED enhanced the original tongue-and-groove ceiling and bold dark beams with new paint and stains. Expansive walls of glass create a strong indoor/outdoor connection.

SHED added oversized sliding glass doors which allow for indoor/outdoor living during the warmer months, while new wood cabinetry establishes a clean, minimalist aesthetic, and an oversized, marble-topped island with a table extension provides room to cook, eat, and entertain. Oversized sliding doors open to the expansive deck, while skylights fill the space with natural light—a necessity with Seattle's gray winter skies.

The kitchen units in Elm Street House by Gardiner Architects are composed of blackbutt veneer and have a matte finish. The counters are Caesarstone.

Gardiner Architecture ensured that flexibility, practicality, comfort, and spaciousness were all present in Elm Street House, as well as natural connections to the oft-used backyard and the surrounding neighborhood. “They also identified that they enjoy eating outside, so the relationship to the garden was really important. To enhance this, we incorporated a kitchen window that opens to become a servery and large glazed doors that allows the dining to flow out onto the deck,” said the firm.

The double-height living space is anchored by a wood-burning stove by Lopi in the corner. The large east-facing window on the far wall floods the room with magical morning light. All the windows and doors are by Quantum.

A vertical slit has been made in the main cube to create an inner patio. The slit brings in air and light, breaking up the mass of the cube and softening the sharp geometry of the design.
