After a referral from another of our clients we were approached by the current owners of this single storey Californian Bungalow, located in the heart of East Geelong. We were asked to help create a single storey weatherboard extension, set to be their dream home complete with in-ground pool. With plans to demolished the 10 year old kitchen which is ample in size, but not a functional layout and is somewhat disconnected from the existing living areas of the house. Our task was to reorganise the layout of the existing family home to create a 4th bedroom complete with ensuite and walk-in-robe, a large library area and a powder room in the existing laundry. The proposed single storey extension comprising the open plan living, kitchen and meals area is sympathetic to the existing period home (which is covered by a heritage overlay under the City of Greater Geelong Planning Scheme) is set to have a luxurious contemporary feel; a polished concrete floor, a functional and amply proportioned new kitchen in a French Provincial style; large openable skylights above the living area. The proposed extension opens up onto the rear entertaining area complete with in-ground pool. The connection between the new and the old becoming a private courtyard for the master-bedroom. Again skylights are proposed to light the library from above in the existing house. The proposed ensuite and powder room to feature beautiful stand alone furniture sourced by the clients. The renovation was completed in December 2013.
