Nestled into the leafy San Fernando Valley suburb of Sherman Oaks, this modern vacation rental in Los Angeles is one of thousands developed by mid-century architect Edward Fickett that were part of an expansive legacy in how Los Angeles sprawl would come to define an era.

The single level home offers many of Fickett’s signature touches: High ceilings and light that enters through walls of glass and skylights in floods or streams, depending on the time of day. Open plan interiors and dividing slumpstone walls that don’t go up all the way are also typical Fickett, allowing for brilliant circulation and an adobe-like finish that adds texture to the composition.
The house was beautifully and respectfully updated by an Italian interior designer with colorful and classic modern furnishings and period pieces that are in harmonic response to the architecture. Paola Lenti’s curvaceous pieces were chosen for plush seating, making the interiors pop with giant knits and sumptuous colors. An Eero Saarinen Tulip table anchors the dining corner, surrounded by a host of Eames DSW chairs in citrusy tones.

Gorgeous built-in finishes and cabinetry with wood paneling accents beautifully with the brick fireplace which is a great focal point of the home. Only non-toxic, eco-friendly materials were used in the restoration. There’s a fully equipped kitchen and a dining area, and three double bedrooms. The completely private outdoor spaces include a pool area and a separate yard to soak in the great Cali weather and the fabulous views of the Valley.
