The Hotchkiss Residence was built for a retired couple ready to move away from the city and drink in life along the river. The S|EA design team worked closely with the owners to create a home that met their immediate needs, while also planning for their future. The home is oriented on the site to maximize southern views of the Columbia River. A large roof overhang creates a dynamic outdoor living room, while also passively shading the interior from the harsh rays of the summer sun. The home’s architectural design also calls for exposed wood framing, a monumental fireplace, walnut cabinetry, large glass windows, and radiant heating in the concrete floors--all complimenting one another in this exceptional example of Northwest contemporary design. Residential designer Rick Berry and his team won several local and national awards for the Hotchkiss Residence. The awards are for achievements in contemporary design, advanced green design strategies, and excellence in interior design.
