From Carsten Sprotte

Twenty years ago the renowned (recently deceased) Swedish-American artist Claes Oldenburg and his wife Coosje van Bruggen carried out a total renovation of the château they acquired as their home. The château already had a claim to fame, having served as the residence of Alexis de Tocqueville during his writing of "Democracy in America".
To showcase his monumental sculptures, the 17-acre property was transformed into a landscaped park with a pond and monumental trees, enhancing the charm of the existing brook that lines the property.

The result is a clean, minimalist interior design that remains true to the simple and unassuming classical architecture that characterizes the original château.
