Multi-use ADU

The ADU was built using structurally insulated panels (SIP) for improved energy efficiency and reduced material waste. A half cellar allows for additional storage capacity for emergency supplies for the neighborhood without disturbing the maple tree onsite. Openings were designed to maximize natural light and cross-ventilation. Natural finishes like cork, birch, and garapa are used throughout to create a feeling of calm and connection to nature. The design maximizes its 395 square feet with a large open living area containing a concealed shower, water closet, and ample storage—providing a fully functional living space, while also encouraging gathering and multiple uses beyond a conventional guest house.

We envision this space to be a satellite office, a host for artist residencies, an emergency meeting point and hub for the neighborhood, a meditation retreat site, and more. Currently, we’re using the space for our sister farm’s CSA pickups, and we’re excited to see the different configurations and uses the ADU will provide.
