While we were working in the neighborhood, the owners of a run down, unoccupied mid century contacted us and offered their home for sale. Original stone walls, exposed beams, and the simple layout got our attention so we agreed. The Magnesia Falls neighborhood is home to many small single family mid centuries in this rare (for Rancho Mirage) neighborhood with no association. This particular home had some old growth olive trees and a simple workable floorpan that could be brought back to life without structural changes, with the exception of a bathroom addition to make the home a two bedroom two bath. Period correct materials such as terrazzo, walnut and laminates were used and restored, highlighting the original architectural features as well as the stunning landscape. Modern LED lighting was added with tracks carefully integrated into the ceiling to eliminate the jarring effect of cans. Even though this is in the desert, the home never had AC so new ductwork was planned to not be obtrusive. The flat roof was then coated with insulating spray foam to modernize and make it livable during the hot months of summer. Minimal landscape and hardscape focuses on the mature olive trees which were so important to the landscape that we built the pool around them. The before pictures highlight how we were able to restore the home to its original mid century character with some modern influences.
