At Susan Jablon Mosaics, one of the best selling tiles is our beautiful ¾” Curved White Milk Glass Subway Tile. This tile gets its name from antique milk glass, which has a similar milky white opaque appearance.
Our Curved Milk Glass Tiles have a stunning iridescent white hue with subtle pale blue undertones. When installed, the slightly curved surface of the tile creates a weaving, three-dimensional effect. Our experienced designers work with each sheet of Milk Glass Tile to ensure that the dye-lot of all the sheets in every order are even. This extra process ensures a flawless, elegant look for any kitchen backsplash.
Bess, one of our fantastic customers from Aiken, South Carolina, sent us this incredible Milk Glass Tile backsplash and the kitchen renovation story behind it.
Here is Bess’s Story:
"When we first toured our house, and its 1970's kitchen, we noticed the obvious things like the green laminate counter tops, the chipped and peeling cabinets, the ancient double ovens, etc. but I also saw something that seemingly no one else did... potential. I could easily picture what this drab, dated kitchen could turn into if someone would give it a chance. And luckily, my husband trusted my vision enough to let me take on this project.
Since we wanted an open concept kitchen, we knew we had to knock out a few walls. We took one wall down to a pony wall height, and extended the countertop from the kitchen into the dining room which allowed for some bar top seating, and not to mention an extra large workspace.
Then, we completely knocked out the wall separating the kitchen and the family room, which provided room for a long center island. I added seating for four to the end of the island in lieu of a traditional breakfast room, and turned what was being used as a small breakfast room into a walk in pantry.
We demolished all the existing cabinetry and went with custom white shaker cabinets, taking them all the way up to the ceiling, and designed the island to be a contrasting gray color with some light distressing for added personality. The cabinet maker worked with me in configuring a bump out for the farm sink with shaker style posts for legs and he also brought to life my vision of a box style range hood with panels and a small mantle. I couldn't be happier with the added character those elements bring to the space. For the counter tops, we chose a quartzite with gray and white veining which tied everything together.
Most of these decisions came easily without too much over-thinking, but choosing a backsplash proved to be a little more challenging. I loved the look of a classic white subway tile, and had seen it in so many kitchens that I knew it was a sure bet…but I wanted something with a little more energy.
After ordering endless samples of backsplash tiles, I found this unique curved white milk glass tile with a beautiful aqua blue undertone from Susan Jablon Mosaics and I just knew it was the one. It adds so much presence to the kitchen, and has a shimmer that gracefully bounces off the polished nickel faucets and fixtures. It turned out absolutely stunning and is a true statement piece in our home.
Now our kitchen has been revived and I'm so glad I was able to bring this old, over-looked kitchen back to life. It turned out to be the perfect space for us and I would do it all over again, and again."
