The Next door project is a combination of quirky curves and solid colors fused harmoniously
to create a bright and live interior space.
The layout of the apartment is broken and rearranged to form a free flowing central axes.
This axial arrangement paves way for a hyperconnected space. The spaces are defined with
fractionated arches, curves and lines.
The living area is expanded towards the balcony to keep the grandeur with a cosy L shaped
sofa facing towards the TV wall. A wooden panelling and TV console is a mix of tiffany blue
finish and arched chequered wooden planes.
Arches inside the wall panelling are enhanced by a minimal artwork in pastel tone, which in
turn acts as a backdrop for the dark leather sofa. The semi-private spaces are set in open
format with accents from wall art and a refreshing terrazzo flooring.
The customised furniture is in symmetry with the overall design scheme. All wall surfaces
reflect a pastel shaded colour palette with smooth curves and lines.
Demolishing the separations between dining and kitchen from the original layout freed the
enclosed space and opened up kitchen - dining areas. An open kitchen attached to the
dining was a requirement put forth by the client as they intended the space to be one where
families eat together and casually catch up during the same.
Breakfast counter is extended from the kitchen top, while the dining table is placed abutting
the wall to break the monotony. A Gayatri Mantra is put up on the wall reminiscing the
concept of ‘God is everywhere’.
Lighting is set up in a manner where it follows a specific perspective on the walls and floors.
The magnetic track based lighting can be adjusted in a manner to create individual mood for
spaces. Most of the lights are customised in line with the apartment design scheme.
Moving through the corridor, the passage was a basic connection to the bedrooms of the
apartment. The ceiling was modelled using wooden arches to provide a feeling of warmth,
where customised lights are directed towards the bedroom.
The bedroom is provided with wooden flooring to give a sense of warmth and texture while
differentiating the space from the common areas. A set of artworks accentuate the bedroom
walls and compliments the paint finish. The idea to keep the headboard and wardrobe
arches is a part of the continuous design layering carried to the bedrooms from common
spaces. The shutters are painted with monocot green to elevate the texture of wood veneer..
All the bedrooms are equipped with adequate storage spaces.
The kitchen has a combination of planes of green, oak and blacks in harmony to carry the
design from dining without a break.
The project is an ode to classical design by reinventing it in conventional methodologies.
