Home Tour // Hotelier Couple Creates a Home Inspired by Travel, the Soul of Chicago, and Made for Miami

My passion as a designer stems from my mother's decorating projects, my grandmother's hosting skills, 16 years in the hotel business and the desire to create a welcoming atmosphere in our home. Like many, I believe a home should tell a story and represent the life of the dwellers. It should be a marriage of functional, beautiful and welcoming. Just like a hotel, really, but with more personal touches.

When moving to Miami from Chicago, our home search left us with homes that would require a massive renovation (being 5 months pregnant in a new city and a husband having a new job, it wasn't the time to take on that kind of project) or erred too modern with loads of mirrors and marble, enough to chill your soul as you entered through the front door. When we found this mid-century house in one of the most charming neighborhoods, I knew it had the bones to become our own. And I knew I could create a sense of hospitality and kindness from the Midwest so that we could establish new traditions and create memories with our daughter, our friends and family.

From Julia Child Boeuf Bourguignon dinner parties and coffee mentoring sessions around my kitchen island, to offering a warm escape in our guest bedroom for our Chicago family and late night feeds in Zoey's nursery, our home has been the foundation to living an intentional life in a new city. A well-designed home is so much more than beauty. It is a reflection of one's heart and ability to attract people in, have meaningful dialogues, create moments that they remember forever and allow them to leave your front door better than they came. This. This is home to us and how we are bringing a bit of Midwest to Miami.
