Valle Vista House
The living room was opened up to the kitchen and new windows draw light deep into the space.
The south facade showcases the third level addition and new wood, metal and concrete cladding materials.
The sculptural stair leading to the third level addition has floating wood treads supported on one end by a thin steel plate.

Light floods the kitchen through multiple skylights and a backsplash window, and vertical grain fir cabinets and floating shelves accent the neutral palette.
A custom concrete form was designed to create the thin ribs shown on the entry stair wall.
The covered terrace and fireplace creates an outdoor space that can be used year-round.

Stair Detail - Floating wood treads supported by a steel plate stringer, topped with a cable guardrail and matching wood handrail.

A custom walnut bed frame was designed in the master bedroom as south-facing windows maximize day light and views out.
The master bathroom features a floating concrete trough sink and glass tiles.

Relocating from Seattle, WA, owners, Brian and Cam, were looking for a change in architectural style from their previous craftsman home. A modern design with an open plan was desired, and an existing 2-story house in NW Portland was vetted for a potential renovation. The existing main level was reorganized and opened up, and a third level addition for a master suite was added atop. The basement was cleaned up and a dark room for Brian’s photography was created out of an existing mechanical area. A mix of warm cedar and industrial metal clads the exterior with hints of concrete at the entry stair and in landscape elements.
