Most counties and cities in the United States have made it illegal to move in a vintage mobile home. Anything built before the National Manufactured Housing Construction and Safety Standards Act of 1974 is prohibited from being moved into a community. There are only a handful of places where people restore and maintain older mobile homes in the United States. Malibu California is one such place. Another can be found just outside Canon City, CO.

This 1969 Buddy Mobile Home was restored over a period of a year. All the walls were repaired, sanded, stained and shellacked. New light colored window frames, commercial carpet were added to brighten up the space. Originally, this was a 3 bedroom home where a wall was already removed to create a dining area next to the kitchen. The kitchen was right next to the living room with a partial wall cutting the space in half. The kitchen was moved to the previous bedroom and the partial wall was removed to open up the space. Now, this is a 2 bedroom, 1 and half bath home with a full laundry room in the back. All the original trim pieces were saved and reused.

The exterior received some new paint and a new fence to complete the look at match the other restored vintage mobile homes in the small 5 unit private mobile home park.

Mobile homes and mobile home parks have been neglected nationwide which has caused a stigma of not only the type of property but also the people who live there. Mobile homes are just large campers, or small homes, some manufacturers made park models deigned to be in mobile home parks. With the boom in vintage camper interest and the current housing crisis throughout the US maybe there will be a renewed interest in saving vintage mobile homes.
