The design challenge for this first floor kitchen renovation specifically involved working with the geometry of the space, a trapezoid, with the interior architecture of the space. Prior to the renovation, the space wasn’t functional for our busy client. There was a very large, double height, rectangle island that housed the range with hood above. In addition, there was very little upper cabinet space due to the over sized refrigerator and sink.

Kate, a director of product management for a cloud-computing company, focuses on the pharmaceutical and life sciences industry, leading an extremely busy and stressful lifestyle. She desired a brighter and more practical layout that allowed for prepping, cooking and entertaining.

To achieve Kate’s design goals, we reduced the size of the existing island, moved the range and exhaust hood to the exterior wall and enveloped the unsightly columns. We were able to functionally increase the storage space by allowing Kate to store away her growing wine collection, dishware, cookware, linens, cleaning supplies, paperwork, etc. By allowing Kate to de-clutter, we increased Kate’s energy, creativity, and confidence as well as decreased her anxiety and stress. Kate is now able to focus on the things that really matter, which leads to a happier and healthier life.
