Musician Norah Jones Lists Her Radiant Cobble Hill Home for $8M
After purchasing the row house in 2009, the nine-time Grammy winner treated it to several upgrades, including an unconventional backyard pool.
Norah Jones is parting ways with one of her two Brooklyn homes. The American singer, songwriter, and pianist—who has sold more than 50 million records worldwide—bought the first home, a historic Cobble Hill residence, 10 years ago for $4,900,000. Since that time, Jones made several chic interior upgrades and managed to squeeze a pool into the backyard.
166 Amity Street was personally renovated by Norah Jones, who purchased the property in 2009. As part of the remodel, Jones added oversized windows to the south-facing exterior, as well as a heated pool and hot tub, which can be covered to increase patio space when not in use.

Nestled on a charming, tree-lined street, the 25-foot-wide townhouse offers sought-after features for city buyers. For starters, the home's corner location offers three exposures, flooding the interiors with natural light on all four floors. The extra-deep, 1,440-square-foot backyard, complete with a heated pool and hot tub, provides a spacious city oasis.
The luminous parlor space features two working fireplaces (one wood, one gas). Original pocket doors provide optional separation of the living and dining areas.

The home, which dates back to 1843, offers five bedrooms and three baths, all spread across 4,500 square feet. Various intimate and open spaces provide room for entertaining. Striking original details are woven throughout the four floors, including hand-carved moldings, exposed wooden beams, and intricate Greek Revival ironwork.

In addition to meticulously restoring many of the circa-1843 features, Jones added other modern accoutrements, such as a geothermal well, radiant heat floors, rooftop solar panels, and a Smart Home system. A 300-square-foot terrace off the master suite was also added, expanding the home's overall outdoor space.
The master suite is located on the third floor and features an elegant black marble fireplace, as well as a luxurious bathroom with a steam shower. Shown here, the light and airy fourth floor features another two of the home's five bedrooms, in addition to a huge loft-like second living space that's complete with its own kitchenette and bath.

Although the musician is letting go of this bright and airy residence, she can still be spotted around the neighborhood. In 2015 she purchased another home (that was featured in the film Eat, Pray, Love) just a few blocks away on Pacific Street.
Drenched in natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows, an antique piano sits on original hardwoods, overlooking the blue-stone patio and lush backyard. While historic details can be found throughout, Jones also added custom decor, such as a wet bar made of teak.
