We’re Here to Tell You Velvet Belongs in Your Backyard
Partner Story

When you think "outdoor furniture," we’re going to go ahead and guess that velvet isn’t the first fabric to come to mind.
While velvet and bouclé are textiles often associated with the indoors and being a bit—shall we say—high-maintenance, they’ve been showing up as a weather-tolerant option in an increasing number of outdoor furniture lines, including our very own Dwell x Chicory collection.
The Dwell x Chicory modular collection features a range of 16 performance fabrics, from plush velvet to a more classic canvas, that have been engineered to withstand any climate for year-round enjoyment.
"We’re thrilled to be offering novelty luxury textures—like our Plush Velvet and Alfresco Bouclé—suitable for outdoor use, offering a refreshingly plush seating experience for the first time in outdoor lounging," says Ben Parsa, Chicory’s founder and CEO. "Unlike traditional outdoor fabrics with tight weaves that lack a cozy feel, we collaborated closely with our fabric manufacturer to engineer two exceptionally plush upholsteries, delivering a luxurious indoor lounging experience for outdoor settings."
All of Chicory’s fabrics, including the velvet and bouclé, have been solution-dyed (meaning the upholstery has been dyed to its core versus just on the surface) and are moisture-, stain-, and fade-resistant.
"While velvet is typically thought of as a delicate novelty fabric given its luxurious feel, it is actually one of the most durable fabric options that exist," adds Parsa. "Thanks to its vertical threads and weaveless design, it possesses a natural resistance to snags, pilling and offers excellent breathability, allowing for optimal drying."
