The bathroom is characterized by the bold use of yellow tiles. The curved base tiles in the shower were one of the most expensive elements of the fit-out, costing $1,520. “It makes the shower easier to clean and means it will look good for longer,” explains architect Iana Vicq.

Yellow tiles cover the floors and wall of the upstairs bathroom, but on the shower floor, a retro blue-and-white checkerboard pattern ties into the powder-blue sink and toilet.

The shower accesses an exterior deck via a door. “You're basically showering in the trees,” says Waterfield.

In addition to the primary suite providing outdoor access, it also comes with a completely renovated bathroom lined with white subway tiling and vibrant, blue patterned flooring.

Embracing a spa-like aesthetic, goC finished the walls of the steam shower with Venetian plaster, which the homeowners find easier to maintain than traditional tile.

Since micro-cement is waterproof, Curtis also used it to cover the shower walls, dispensing with the need for tile and the busyness of grout lines. A full-height linen shower curtain adds more texture and movement, and the plumbing is handmade of brass.

The Finnish company Durat has developed a durable, 100-percent recyclable surface material made from resin and post-industrial plastic chips. It’s available in over 1,000 colors, including speckled options that mimic the texture of terrazzo, and it can be cast for applications ranging from countertops to sinks and bathtubs, as seen in its vibrant new showroom by Linda Bergroth.
