Tucked away in Beverly Hills, the Sommers House was Robert Kennard’s first project after leaving Richard Neutra’s office—and it received a major renovation by Marmol Radziner.

The piecemeal flooring that changed from room to room was swapped out for white oak, and the front door, side lite, and trim all updated.

Architects Gordon Stott and Jared Levy saw modular prefabrication as a chance to make high-quality residences more affordable—so long as the construction method was extremely efficient. Since, Stott and Levy have made more affordable models as well as shelters and community buildings for unhoused people.

In another section of the yard, Cooper added varying-sized circular cement stepping stones, which lead toward an elevated planter filled with California-native plants.
