Modern Park City Gem
This home was renovated - flipped, mirrored, turned inside out - modifying it's banal design into a functioning home for an empty-nester Philadelphia couple seeking to enjoy the mountains of Utah. Both modern detailing and hints of historic origins are found throughout this Old Town Park City home. The owners' are was carefully documented prior to the start of the design project and carefully integrated back into the architectural concept. The kitchen and living room areas were flipped; the main level bathroom was transformed into a wine cellar; the two bedrooms modified into a guest suite and laundry room; the master closet and bath were flipped across the room.
Wine cellar with float glass and indoor/outdoor shelf for tasting or cocktail-making. Shallow liquor cabinets below match the island in the same room. Curved cabinetry and soffits move people through the house from front door to back door - an opening wall system that allows the kitchen and bar to service the guests on the back deck.

At nearly eleven feet long, the island creates a spacious baking counter and entertaining bar. Mather customized the color of the bar's base. He stumbled upon a brilliant red autumn leaf while on the client's favorite mountain hike in Park City's Wasatch Mountains.

Mather carefully designed this alder coffered ceiling over the dining room as a nod to the area's historic roots and the home's location within Park City's historic district. He adorned the center panel of the nine with a tin ceiling tile that might have been found in every historic home on the street at one point in time.

The mud room off the garage level utilizes durable floor tiles and provides ample seating space as well as storage space for boots, gloves, skis, snow shoes and the like. The home's gym is just to the right of the curved dark wood bench. Stainless steel bars double as stretching bars.

The "anti-flue", a slit through the wall between the fireplace and the main stair's lower landing creates an exciting directed view to the glass-enclosed cyclonic flame. The opening is small enough to meet strict codes on such stair openings.
