I would love to submit for the 2020 Dwell Awards for Small Spaces.

About the design:

Because the airstream is only 180 sq ft, I wanted to keep the materials used to a minimum to keep it light, airy, and simple overall. With the idea of the natural world in mind, I aimed for it to feel earthy and sustainable. I chose maple for the core of our build for its warmth and because it is often used in contemporary spaces, a style I love. Cork was selected for the floor because of the natural element and because it's a sustainable material with no trees having to be cut down in order to harvest. Our shower tiles are even made from the material, recycled from wine bottles from Portugal and Spain. We used Corian for the countertops And I chose it in half-inch to be non-intrusive and subtle. Walnut was chosen at the very end for bold contrast accents.

I wanted tones that felt serene and tranquil. A mix of browns and other earthy hues like grays and rust. I believe in the psychology of color, you know, relating color to human behavior. Brown in all of its variations to me represents the earth. Everything I read said that color equates to comfort, healing, security, and most importantly - home.
