We wanted the girls’ rooms to be as fun and vibrant as they are. Here, the younger daughter’s bedroom with custom made built-in beds. Storage was added below to make the best use of a small footprint. The Pierre Frey covered blinds match the wallpaper on the ceiling.

The circa 1955 teak wall unit is from Italy but found in the Netherlands. We chose Inchyra Blue from Farrow & Ball for the walls to create a space that serves a refuge and sanctuary from our client’s demanding work and travel schedules.

We added the Trove wall covering to the otherwise cold and sterile powder room to give it life and personality. The metal stand under the basin was replaced with a cabinet we designed. The large, sculptural door pull is actually a coat hook from Tom Dixon.

The project was to fully furnish a 3 bed, 3.5 bath apt at 40 Bleecker, a new luxury condo in NoLita for a young family. Mom is an Ivy League professor, author, and world-renowned expert in her field and Dad is a managing director of a hedge fund. They have two young daughters.

The goal of the project was to give the family a beautifully designed home: modern, but with warmth and personality, that would also work for them. With two young children, demanding careers and constant travel, we focused on pieces and materials that would require minimal upkeep and wear well (outdoor textiles, terrazzo and tile tables). While the apartment was brand new and in a “luxury” building, it was also basically a white box- indistinguishable from every other unit in the building. Without having to gut the kitchen and baths, we sought to differentiate and individualize their home with the addition of decorative millwork, paint and paper. We also maximized space and storage in the children’s rooms with custom designed built-in furniture.

Interesting side note: The family brought only their clothes and personal belongings with them when they moved in. We were responsible for furnishing everything from cutlery, kitchen tools, and towels to bedding, furniture, and accessories.
