When a family of five decided to make a last minute move from Long Island’s Gold Coast to Manhattan’s waterfront, they purchased a 3,500 square foot apartment to be designed and furnished in two weeks' time.

For this apartment with floor to ceiling windows and open floor plan, a contemporary aesthetic was created to both stand out, and blend well with sweeping city views. Ward 5 Design worked with some of the apartments existing elements such as exposed brick and rustic beams, while designing a modern interior. By pairing a variety of surface materials, such as grasscloth and cork wallpapers, brick veneer, and wood beams, the four-bedroom, five-bathroom residence showcases a distinctive modern mix of color and texture. The major common areas can all be seen from one another therefore accent colors of ochre in the living room, and deep eggplant in the family room, complement each other’s boldness. Custom-made sofas are featured in both spaces, one of which keeps consistent with light neutrals, and the other made of stark black velvet and leather. Mixed metallics were also used in the entry and hallways to create a bold luxury look, even in the smallest of spaces.
