A Bright and Joyful Topanga Canyon Kitchen Redesign

Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Topanga Canyon, a creative couple embarked on an exciting renovation journey, focusing their creative energy on transforming the heart of their home—the kitchen and laundry area. Recognizing the need for guidance from a specialist, they enlisted the expertise of design firm The Designecture to create a space that perfectly suited their lifestyle.

The designers created a spacious kitchen by opening up three separate areas, inviting in more light, a clear passage from the front of the house to the backyard, and an unobstructed view of the canyon.

The kitchen design brings outdoor light in, and bifold doors enable the clients to take full advantage of their outdoor space and canyon views. Twin islands provide ample storage, room to work, and a cozy setting for swapping stories over delicious meals with great company. The team also created a laundry area that maximizes functionality and form, with doors recessing to reveal a full-sized washer and dryer, and drawers to hold all the accoutrements of laundry day.

Each design decision was considered with the clients’ personalities in mind, down to the smallest detail. The clients had their eye on a bright red Bertozzini range, so the designers kept that in mind when creating a color story for the kitchen. Initially they had planned for red, white, and royal blue tiling on the accent wall, but decided that a more striking color contrast would really make the range pop. The aquamarine tile became the perfect backdrop that not only dramatically allowed the range to shine, but also mirrors clear skies and outdoor pool. Naturally stained hickory cabinetry, aquamarine trims, and bright red accents kept the space consistent throughout.

All of these elements came together perfectly, creating a joyful space for friends, family, and even furry friends to spend time together indoors and out.
